Please tell your friends, family, colleagues... anyone you want!

Earth Hour is an awareness day about Global Warming complementing Earth Day. It consists of switching off the light from 8.30pm to 9.30pm- local time- for all participants of the world. This event is organized by WWF (World Wild Fund for Nature) and is always celebrated on the last Saturday of March annually. Everyone- households as well as businesses- are asked to « turn off the lights, the electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change and to reduce greenhouse gas. » (wikipedia)
This global event was suggested by WWF and the Sydney Morning Herald in 2007. On that day, « 2.2 million Sydney residents turned off all non-essential lights.". Since then, many countries have followed this example.
How did it work in New York? Let's have a look on one- if not the only one- of the videos about the event I found on youtube.
Well...we can notice some efforts in the City of lights. But hopefully NY will do better for edition 2012...
What do you think?
Personally, I completely and shamefully missed it. There was probably not enough communication on the subject...:(
Here is a song by Yannick Noah, a popular French singer, who used to be tennis champion, winner of Roland Garros in 1983. To my ears, it explains well exactly the urgency of the situation and invites people to take green actions.
I found a pretty good translation of the lyrics on: http://www.cucumis.org/translation_1_t/view-the-translation_v_54735.html (it sounds way better in French though)
Cement across the plains Flows into the mountains Poison in the fountains Through our countrysides
Out of tornadoes Our history is sinking Our ideal remains "To strut our stuff"
Buying air in blocks Filling the balance: Some petrodollars In exchange for existence
From the equator to the poles This weight on our transitory squatters' shoulders... It isn't funny anymore
Since we must change things Onward to the trees, citizens! It's time for us to propose A world for tomorrow!
Onward to the trees, citizens! Some slaps we are due The watch is for tomorrow Some slaps due in return
Making an army of reeds Stand firm No more people kneeling Pass the word
It's true that the Earth is round But who's to tell us That it is for everyone... And the ones to come...
No time left to know who's to blame to count the chances or the others Now we should fight With you I do believe
